PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PLATEAU STATE STUDENTS (NAPSS)
It is with a deep sense of humility and responsibility that the National President of Plateau state students ( NAPSS ) writes to address some issues bothering the plight and welfare of Plateau State students.
The University of Jos is one of the most famous universities known for peaceful learning environment, academic excellence and the production of competent graduates, it is however unfortunate that the institution has found itself in this present tussle. The recent happenings in the institution is disheartening to say the least.
1. The university recently informed the general public on the unanimous agreement between the management, Students and parents on the new school fee charges put at N45,000 . However it was unfortunate to realize that the management had given a wrong perception when the SUG President of the institution clarify the union's stand on their resistance of the new school fees structure.
2.SUSPENSION OF THE SUG EXECUTIVE ARM
The news of the suspension of the executive arm of the Student Union Government of Unijos, is unfortunate and unacceptable in a unified community as Plateau state. The university management did not just act childishly but proved to the general public and Plateau state (host community) that they are financially dubious and lack prudence . However it has become necessary of me to take the following actions.
1. Demand the immediate reinstatement of the Executive arm of the Student Union Government of University of Jos between now and the next 72 hours.
2. The university of Jos is to note, that Plateau state is enjoying peace today not because of her cowardice, but as a result of managing situations and tolerance for one another, and the efforts put in place by the Plateau State Government to ensure peaceful coexistence of all her citizens through the inclusive leadership style of the Rescue administration led by Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong the Executive Governor of Plateau state. Therefore as the national President of Plateau state students the host community of University of Jos will not fold my arms and watch the university management disrupt the relative peace we are enjoying.
3. That the increment in the school fees is not just injustice to the students, but to the Plateau State citizens who are not financially buoyant to be technically excluded from sending their children to the University, considering the fact that the University is Hosted by Plateau state, though a Federal government owned institution. We are in demand of the downward review of the school fees charges within the next 7 days (1 week)
4. All Plateau state students and Plateau Sons and Daughters are to converge in Mass at the Plateau State Polytechnic Jos campus by 8:am to match to the University of Jos To make the formal submission of our demands and take on the issue.
Note: all Plateau state students and committed Plateau state citizens must be oderly law abiding and must not cause any form of chaos in the course of our submissions.
